Reality Closer to Fantasy With Invisibility Cloak

. Monday, August 11

The good news is...

Making fantasy a reality is now closer as scientists are making headway on creating a material that will render people and objects invisible. This artificially engineered metamaterial bends and redirects light and how it is reflected back to the eye "like water flowing around a smooth rock in a stream." The material is a mxiture of metal, Teflon and fiber that bends light enough so that three dimensional objects don't create reflections or shadows.

Back when I was lawyering, I used to mention something similar to my secretary. I had a bad habit of walking by her desk and swiping her pens (I was always signing something or taking one note or another back then).

I would tell her it wasn't my fault -- that the government was experimenting with teleporting and that a stray beam would pick up her pens and move them to my desk every now and again.

She never fell for that. Bright lady...
