Obama's Prayer

. Friday, July 25

"Lord, protect my family and me. Forgive me my sins and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."

Obama stuffed his prayer note in a crack in the Western Wall in Jerusalem, only to have it pulled by a seminary student and delivered to a newspaper.

The media interprets the prayer to mean that Obama is lonely, struggling, challenged and seeking divine intervention.  I'd agree if he hadn't mentioned "me" five times in that prayer.  This rock star fanfare - minus any modicum of humility - doesn't quite fit the image you'd expect of a potential president of the United States.  It's all getting in the way of the issues.

All the references to self did strike me a little funny, considering where he was... the pride - he's fighting that battle 24/7!

Yep, and it sure would help if he learned proper grammar. It should be "family and I." I'm not too impressed with this guy, no matter what party he is.

I think his prayer is appropriate for what he is going through. It sounds like what many leaders pray for and what I pray for them. It outrages me that someone would take a private thing and just give it to the newspaper. To me that is a sacred piece of paper and between God and him. BTW, I am not an Obama fan and am still weighing the choices.

I just hope the money paid for getting that little piece of paper to the media does more good than that selfish prayer. Talk about a media stunt!

I am also not an Obama fan, but I will say that who ever took that prayer should burn in hell. That was a private moment between he and God. Media stunt? Not hardly. Give the man some privacy between he and God. How would any of you feel if a private moment was shared with the world?

One person said that if he was truly speaking to God and not intending his prayer to be made public, he would have prayed with the paper in his hands, then put the blank paper into the crack in the wall. Why no comments about it? He wanted and intended what he wrote to become public. Just my opinion, of course.

Heh. What issues? When Obama's not howling about hope, dreams and/or change, his views seems largely determined by the crowd he's addressing at the time.

Don't get me wrong -- not too thrilled with McCain, either.

This is a miserable election. They need to learn a thing or two about the last Arkansas gubernatorial race -- two great candidates to choose from.
